Differential Equations, the novel Julian Iragorri and I just published, had numerous sources of inspiration. Julian’s family story was one, as was the fact that both of us had some mind/body experience. Another key source of inspiration were the magic realists. I knew that Julian and I could collaborate well when I learned in our first conversation that both of us considered Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude a favorite novel. Further conversation revealed a shared affection for Isabel Allende, Jorge Amado, and others. I’d wanted to write a magic realist novel for some time, and with Julian I would finally get the chance to do so.
What kind of books do you like to read when you travel?
Hubby and I are headed to New York City for Book Expo America. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve discovered so many books I want to read this Summer and it seems like I’ve been downloading a new book every day to take with us. I’m pretty sure my eReader is just as over-packed as my suitcase!

Which book(s) would you like to receive as a gift this year?
This week’s new releases brought many limited-time eBook bargains that make it easy to discover new-to-you authors. They also make great gifts! If you are giving a new eReader this Christmas, why not load it up in advance with a variety of eBooks so your special someone can start eReading right away? Or, if you’re the eReader in the family, bargain-priced eBooks are are a great way to find new authors you might like without investing a lot of money upfront. If you’re like me and you read a lot every day, then bargains like these help stretch your book budget so you can buy more for the same amount of money.
*Happy Sigh* It’s the middle of December and this is my favorite time of the year! The air is crisp, the city is decked out for the holidays and people I pass on the sidewalks seem generally happy as they go about their day. I’ve been listening to my Christmas carols for a few weeks now and the only thing that could make this season better for me would be finally getting our first real snowfall of the season.
New books also make me happy. I bet they’d make someone on your gift list happy, too! Luckily, it’s New Release Tuesday and the list of potential gift books just keeps growing.
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving weekend! My husband and I went to visit my side of the family and had a blast visiting with everyone and playing with our nieces and nephews. I had a reading plan for the weekend, which I posted here last week, but I totally underestimated my reading time. Oh well, I’ll get there!

It’s already Tuesday again and I can’t believe how fast this month is flying by. We’re only two weeks away from Thanksgiving and some quality family time. I said this last week, too, but I really can’t believe November is here already! Where does the time go? It’s getting chilly outside- perfect weather for curling up on the sofa with a good book and a steamy cup of hot chocolate. Sounds cozy, right?

Mozart’s Last Aria is one that initially drew my attention because the cover is so striking and pretty. I don’t know where she’s going, but I want to follow and find out! The description sounds really good, too, so this is one that will be moving to the top of my To Be Read Pile.
